Divorce before the age of 30 may create fewer financial complications in terms of real estate or property division and that's because many Arizona couples who are young may not yet have accumulated real estate or other items over which they need to negotiate a complex properly division arrangement.
Nevertheless, divorce before 30 can still be stressful with or without the high assets. It is also more common than some might believe, and a social psychologist and part-time blogger for the Huffington Post has recently written a book catering to those who divorce in their 20s.
The author was married at the age of 27 and divorced just a year later. She believes that many women feel pressure to marry before they turn 30 because of longstanding societal beliefs and stereotypes. She says these early marriages can have serious consequences. She wrote her book to empower young divorced women to move on with their lives.
The book contains stories from 80 different women who married and divorced young. The stories touch upon why the women chose to marry and the reasons for their divorce. Common reasons included low self-esteem, emotional or physical abuse or a lack of motivation on the part of husbands who were not as successful or ambitious as wives.
While young couples may not always have complex assets, they still must understand that marriage is a financial partnership and division of property is a necessary part of obtaining a divorce. When a couple weds and one party is more career-driven and financially successful than the other, that person may also become responsible for alimony. Young people considering divorce must carefully consider these issues.
Before or even after a marriage, an attorney can help draft a prenuptial or postnuptial agreement that will protect the assets of each in the event of a divorce.
